Westminster Abbey

Following a 4 way creative pitch, Designmap were commissioned to create a flexible, temporary (2 years) exhibition in the Chapter House at Westminster Abbey.

The Abbey has plans for new galleries in the triforium, visitor facilities and an education suite. They also want to reopen the centuries old debate about whether or not the Abbey is ‘finished’ and discuss the possibility of a new 21st century architectural feature, such as a ‘corona’, being added to the roof of the Abbey above the lantern to honour and celebrate the place of Coronation.

The exhibition tells the story of the development of the Abbey over the last 1000 years and invites visitors to comment on these proposals for the future.

The design is inspired by the Eames House of Cards and can be easily updated or re-configured for different spaces.
